The Beast Beneath Drakkar Lake
Yes this beasty will be live in GW2.
GW has always striven to be relatively group based, though with the introduction of hero's people are not grouping as much anymore, choosing to solo quests and missions.
GW2 whilst keeping with a strong PvP environment will be trying to strengthen the PvE aspects of the game. Similar to now we will have the individual group instances, but they will be introducing also what will be called Alliance Raids. Battles in instances that can support a high number of players for example 50 or more. This number isn't decided yet.
Such ideas were experimented with during the design of the Factions campaign, you may remember the Unwaking Waters Mission and the 2 group battle against Kuunavang. It was proven the GW1 wouldn't support this feature well enough on a large scale without rewriting too many aspects of the game. This among with many other points that would be wanted changed in retrospect lead towards the conclusion of GW2 as the best answer to solving the great many issues plaguing the dev. team.
Welcome to one of the first hints of what will be to come in GW2.

Best not to take my word for it, please ask Gaile or any Devs.
Then again they mostly like to be cryptic at best.

Unless you are developer (very unlikely) or closed beta tester under NDA (who would be so stupid to risk own closed beta testing position), you are just making this up.

to defeat.
There was a magazine interview on GW2 a month or two back with Jeff Strain using the example of a town being attacked by a flying dragon or something and that everyone in the town (that wanted to participate) would fight this beast. [If I'm remembering correctly.]
I couldn't tell... does Giganticus Lupicus have wings?

This sounds like another example, though it may be a different creature from the sound of it.
The loot share issue will be mostly determined by luck, but everyone will get something from a chest, very similar to the dungeon bosses and chests just on a much larger scale.
I'm not sure if Jeff is talking about an event driven dragon or another mission based one. Event driven being an event and everyone in town will hit a special button to choose to defend. Mission based being where an organised raid group is setup and enters to verse a creature, for instance your dragon.
I haven't heard anything about any event driven battles yet, then again there's still plenty I don't know.

Yeah, after looking at all the skulls and skeletons lying around all of Tyria, I don't believe this creature is the same kind. The skulls have giant tusk-like protrusions on the sides of its head, as well as huge eye-sockets clearly visible. This creature under Drakkar Lake does not appear to have tusks (there are protrusions, but they aren't tusk-like at all) nor does it have visible eyes, at least the size of the ones in the skulls.
Check out this thread over at incgamers: http://guildwars.incgamers.com/forum...d.php?t=386347
They went into extensive detail studying the bones and skulls found all over Tyria/Elona, and there are many pictures.
So, I'm thinking either this thing is Giganticus Lupicus, and all the other remains everywhere aren't - or the other way around. Either way, I really don't think they are the same.

The fact that Lindsay says that the thing is frozen there for a purpose and there are more hints like that in GWEN about GW2 got me intrigued.

Drakkar = Norse longship with a dragons or drakes head mounted on the prow, so a loose interpretation could be "Dragon" or "Drake" Lake.

it's evil without a doubt... or they wouldn't hint at it with the story of Jaro and her brother. Think we might as well expect this to be a bad moddafokka ^^ in GW2.

Some people over at incgamers thinks it might be Dhuum himself - frozen in place by Grenth. I'm actually inclined to believe that. There are a bunch of Grenth statues all over that zone. Also the fact that there are complete trees in the ice with this creature, which means it wasn't originally a lake before it froze over - as if it filled up quickly and was flash-frozen with the creature suspended instantly. Remember, Grenth = Cold.
Sounds like some good theories, which match some more images I've seen. This thing is not a water-creature. It has sharp, segmented legs like an insect, and pincers near it's mouth. Very insect-like. Plus, it doesn't appear to have eyes in the traditional reptilian/mammalian style, but rather appears to have multiple eyes on top of its head.
**SPOILERS**
Dhuum was the god of Death, and as we've seen from the other god we've fought - Abaddon - he should be freakin huge. It may also be the case that it is impossible to destroy a god. Abaddon was locked away, sure he was replaced, but we don't know for sure he's entirely "destroyed," even if it was implied. Another thing: if it is possible to kill a god, such as Abaddon, Dhuum might just be the one god that is truly immortal and invincible. He was the original god of death, it's possible that he controlled death itself, and could not die. This may also be true of Grenth. It was also said that Dhuum was destroyed, but was later revealed by Keeper Zeliss in the Gate of Torment that Dhuum may still be around and was attempting to contact Abaddon along with Menzies.
To further the possibilities - the head of this creature in the ice seems to be giving off a very bright light. We know that the gods have a way to show themselves to mortals via avatars, such as the warrior in platemail for Balthazar, or the purple floating face for Lyssa. This light coming from its head may be its attempt to communicate with denizens of the underworld, and possibly the destroyers. It may also be what was behind the transformation of Jora's brother, and what hindered Jora from turning into a bear. If so, this thing is not only huge, but mentally powerful as well - as we would come to expect from any god.
Just some fun lore to throw out there. Loving the mysteriousness of this thing, BTW.

Well First I must say GG A-net, for a game lacking in RPing a cryptic thing like this really enriches the game from "Me pwn wit frenzy and teh heAling signe!!!!1!! i Is tanking!. Next this is obviously something anchient and Malifecent. As seen from Jora's expierience. This area eminates evil as the said in the cutsceen. My guess is not Giganticus Lupiculis (sp) but some other entiety from that time pieriod. And as to how it got there, My guess is that during its time that area was covered with a sea. The entire world may have been an ocean, as was ours. This would have put its time even before the Giants. This could very well have been here since the dawn of time (in GW). And as the seas retreated it was land locked and eventually frozen in the lake. Such as the Loch Ness Theory. Yeah my post is very onorganized but im half asleep.
